Hi all

has anyone got any experiance views on an A6 Quattro Estate 2.7tdi. Thinking of getting this for a new tow car for our Bailey Provence? The weight ration look good and the road tax isnt in the £400+ bracket. Any help much apprecated

Cheers

Hi mab1964

I currently own a 2.7 allroad auto, and apart from the air suspension is very much the same car. Running costs are high if you use main dealers but there are plenty of specialists out there. Solo mpg 30 around town, motorway driving you can average between 38-40 mpg, depending on how you drive. Tyre wear not too bad I am getting about 24k out of a set of Michelins. With regard to towing the car is excellent, nose weight 85kgs with a factory fitted towbar, fuel consumption between 23 and 27 mpg. I towed an Abbey 318 with a MTPL of 1350 kgs. Took car to weigh bridge and with just me and a full tank of diesel car weighed in at 2070 kgs with a max tow of 1900 kgs, so the car will tow most vans out there. Hope this has been of help.

thanks for the info Kevherb. Does the allroad suspension help/make much diffrence when towing. I read somewhere it goes down to normal levels after you reach 30mph?

My Allroad is a 07 so I cannot comment on previous /other models. With the caravan on the back the cars' electronics recognised this and put the car into 'tow mode'; which kept the car and caravan level despite the varying loads. In 'tow mode' the car also has trailer stability programme which would prevent a snake if one happened. Mind you I always took care to get weight distribution and nose weight correct whilst towing.

So in answer to your question yes it does help whilst towing.

make sure the cam belt has been changed if required, it has two i believe, i remember a moderator on honest john who had one the belt broke and destroyed the engine.

I prefer chain cam engines my self.

Ray, the 2.7tdi V6 engine has chains.

I stand corrected, it was the 2.8 v6 diesel.

Is the a4 diesel now chain?
I know that Audi have fitted the 2.7tdi to the A4 and if it is the same 2.7tdi as mine then I would say yes. However I cannot comment on the other engines in the range, it would be best to check with Audi.
