Audi Q5 dodgy socket electrics?

Travelling over the weekend we followed one van which had no lights at all and one which had permanent reverse lights and nothing else. We managed to pull alongside the first one told him, but he already knew. We were unable to let the second one know.

Both were pretty new Q5s with modern vans. Is this a common problem with these Audis? I assume they'd be all fancy can-bus tech and so pretty much fool-proof rather then the scotch-loc nightmares I've come across from time to time.

I don't believe Audis will be any more susceptible than other VAG brands or indeed other makes. Its more likely the caravans electrics not having been maintained properly. things like corrosion in fittings and sockets, bent pins that don't make contact, or DIY bodge jobs.

There is a serious issue with the towbar fitment on Audi Q5 and compatibility with the ALKO hitch as reported on another forum. The issue is being escalated to DVSA due to the danger involved. Not sure if the issue also includes the electrics.

I've had a Q5 and now an SQ5 - no issues with towbar electrics and both upgraded for aux power supply with no issues from our local towbar specialist.
The only gripe is the towbar is so close to the bumper, you have to be ultra careful not to nudge the caravan tow hitch into the bumper. Apart from that, they're both great towcars, especially the SQ5 which has ridiculous amounts of torque!
