Avoiding Brussels

I am driving from Dunkerke to Germany next week. My obvious route takes me around Brussels on the busy ring road. I am considering avoiding by using the A25/A16/A15 to join up with the A4 south of Brussels. This adds about 7 miles.

Does anybody think its worth doing?

Ian - I came back on this route on 10 July. The A25 in France has a horrible surface in places. In fact I grounded the jockey wheel on this road and bent it, and it now needs replacement. I was returning from a 3000 mile trip and never grounded anywhere else!!

Also there were major road works on this road near Lille, with long delays - the signs were advising to detour via St Omer!!

On the way out we went via Gent and Brussels onto the A3 to Liege. This was excellent and we hardly noticed Brussels.

So I would advise going via Brussels!!

Meant to add that from the state of the the road works it looked as though they would be going on for a long time!

I agree about the road surface but apart from bumping up and down, we had no difficulties.

We have done the route around Brussels many, many times never had a problem as long as you avoid going at the rush hour when the locals are going to or from work.
