If you click the forum search button at the top of the page, type in awning channel in the subject, and answers will pop up as this has been covered a while back.

Hope this helps!

Hi

We use something called easy glide or glide easy from 'Lakeland Plastics' as they used to be called. Our awning was a nightmare to get through the channel until we used this once about 18 months ago. Now its no problem. Good luck.

Hiya David

It doesn.t make any difference wether you start at the front or the back and forget all the fancy lubricants. We use a tin of Pledge, just sray the polish full legnth of the rail at about 1" away from it just before you start to erect the awning, it works a treat and it makes the awning smell nice too!

I use the lubricant recommended above and the awning on my 26' van sails in. I feed it through the upper point at the rear of the van and my wife pulls it to the front easy as it could be. I have heard that pledge does the trick also but I've never tried it. I use the lubricant every 3-4 times we erect the awning, the bottle and little brush cost about

The main reason I was having problems getting my awning through the channel was because of the sharp edges at the bottom entrance to the awning channel. The sharpness of the metal kept catching on the material of the beading making it a nightmare to get into the channel. I got a pair of pliars and prised the very bottom of the channel open and back on itself making a larger feed area for the awning beading. I can now feed the full awning myself in a fraction of the time.

Try it, it really works; one word of caution - after you've prised the opening back a bit use pincers to snip off the sharp edges and file it down to avoid catching your leg on it.

If you guide the awning bead in part way up the track where it is opened up you dont catch or damage the canvas exposing the bead inside on the sharp edge at the end of the awning track.

I have used a silicone based spray once a year at the begining of the season and this has worked great and lasted. Everyone will try and will find the best product for thier use. I dont think I would personally use WD40 as this is an oil and it will stain the awning bead over time and could react with the water proofing of the awning its self. But everyone to their own product and if it works for them good luck.
