Yes we are all too familiar with your sentiments. We sold the full size awning about four years ago annd bought a midi Isabella but also just before we bought that we got a cheap (£65 new) one of a similar size from ebay just to see if we could manage with a smaller one than the full size. Answer 'Yes we can". But guess which one gets taken on most trips, yes its the cheap Romany Basecamp. Its been an absolute star, only 10-15 minutes to set up (one person), withstands all weathers and is still going strong, albeit a bit bleached. Just packing up now, but we have decided to take the Isabella midi, why I dont really know other than to give it an airing. The bad news is that we change site on our wedding anniversary so I hope that setting up the Isabella doesnt lead to a major rift. Perhaps i'll leave setting it up to the next day!!

My wife and myself put up an awning together although she doe smost of the work and we never have issues even when we put it up for the first time. What is there to argue about as awnings are very simplistic if you read the instructions? It seems the author of the blog has never been on a caravan forum where loads of excellent advice is available.

i thought the OP's blog was well written and highly amusing, and I suspect somewhat tongue in check. I too read the instructions but then forget them, age i guess, and then find it very difficult to read them when the wind is trying to rip the mainsail out of our hands)
still we will soldier on when we reach Bamburgh and if we loose the battle I guess someone in Amsterdam or Carlise will gain a little used Isabella.

Very good blog. We've all been there!

These days ,many years on we have it cracked. SWMBO has a stiff drink and I just get bon with it. LOL.

In truth we know who does what with the threading through the awning rail. She holds the centre pole while a whack a peg in the ground.Then rain snow or sun I get on with it. SWMBO very cleverly keeps me supplied Ale. There's method in her madness.

Well done Suzanne, humorous as ever! We've now given up on awnings, as it got to be too much bother for two frail oldies, for too little gain, but your blog has brought back loads of (sometimes painful) memories.
