I have a new awning. Should I proof it with Nixwax etc before using it or should it be put up and weathered first?
I seem to recall with tents you had to let them weather before waterproofing them.

Hi Morganic, they do say it should be weathered first, and apparently it starts to seal itself, put it up a couple of times and see how it goes.
How ever i had a new one last year and the first time it was up it was Ok the second time it was leaking like a seive,so I got impatient and sealed mine with Fabsil and no problems since, so who is right and who is wrong when they say it should be weathered

Hope this helps.

hi, when we got the van the dealer threw in a new dorema awning, the first 2 or 3 times it was used it leaked like a sieve, in fact the first time there was more rain inside than out but after it had been soaked and dried out a couple of times it was fine. had it 6 years now and had no more problems and is bone dry even in the heaviest rain.
so I suppose my advice would be to leave it to cure it's self.
