Personally i wouldn't. ....

If you want a awning that will last you for a few years expect to pay more, have you a budget to keep to ?

Had one. It blew away in a storm. The "D" poles are very delicate and tend to buckle inwards. I also found the roof often snagged the top of the caravan door.

There are some pretty decent second hand ones available . Check out some dealers and the small ads in the Clubs magazines. Even PCv has the odd advert. You should be able to pick up a good quality Isabella, Bradcot or similar. If you can go for one with the Carbon x frame. Far stronger and lighter than alloy or steel.

Try the Doreema site - they often have sales of last years models. I've had a couple and they've always worn well. I've only bought a new one when I've changed the 'van.

Do you actually need a full awning or will a large porch awning suffice? If you buy a full awning and then change the van you might need one of a different size, whereas a porch awning will fit several sizes of van.

We have 5 kids so need the room for some to sleep in.or the other idea is to remove the bathroom to fit more beds then use on site facilities.

Ed, be careful if you remove the bathroom, most vans are constructed with internal walls as part of the van construction, this gives the whole body stability, personally I would not go down that route.

What make year and model of caravan have you?
The Dorema you mention will be far too small and probably be too high off the ground. Not something to sleep in. You can awnings altered at a cost but why not hunt out the correct size described in your handbook or you can measure it yourself , see this:

I have an awning with a sleeping annexe. It is size 1000. There is a bit of wear and tear and one of the zips is broken, but is holding the panel closed so just don't use it. It is surplus to requirements as it won't fit my van and we use an air awning. Not worth putting on flea bay.

Guys will it be ridiculously large for Eds van, because I am happy to give it away if the East Midlands is close enough for collection.

That's very kind of you , Your Royal Woosieness.
Ed needs a size 11 , yours is a size 14.
That said there are plenty of firms around who can reduce the size for him. Maybe he could get a quote ??

Ed :

Before you think about getting a awning altered you really need to measure your own van as described here, one of the reasons is that different manufactures class a size 11 awning in different sizes :eek:hmy:
Ideally measure your van with a length of rope washing line mark it and take it with you to check it against the awning when laid out on the floor, that way from the offset you will then be able to decide what to do, if for instance it works out to be approx 20cms longer than your rope, you can use the awning without having to get it altered, all you do is raise the van on a pair of ramps and that will take easily the extra material vertically from the floor, as one day you may be on a sloping pitch, and you will be able to peg it out with easily.

If it's to short some depending by how much, you could have a piece fitted to lengthen it... ;)

If you have a look here or search Google for awning repairs there are a few places about that can do them.

Ok . That's 9 cm more than what you want.
Why not measure up your caravan as described on here and see if it really is as Coachman say. Awnings do vary and in fact size ranges vary too from on maker to another . eg a size 11 will fit 900 - 925 in Dorema etc.
I think the one you have found will be ok.

Ed.
you should be happy. NR ( Nova Recreations ) of Todmorden Lancs have been
making awnings for many decades.
Well done.
