Hi all

Just thought I'd say hello I used to be a regular poster on here but four years ago we swapped our caravan for a motorhome. After four enjoyable years of motorhoming we are going back to a caravan we pick up next week. Our new van is a 2018 Lunar Cosmos 544 and We have just bought a 59 Volvo V70 as our new tow car. We are looking forward to caravanning again and posting on here again.

Always interesting to hear from someone who has 'been to the other side' ....and come back! Do share your experiences and reasons (both ways) if and when you get time.

Thanks for the welcome. We bought our motorhome 4 years ago as our previous caravan a Compass was 13 years old and needed some work (the body had began to come away from the chassis) we had always fancied a motorhome so decided to go for it and got a really good deal on the Autotrail we bought. It is a big motorhome so we got a small car and towed it behind the motorhome which worked well. This year we were looking to get a fixed bed van again but to do the change over and get a motorhome better than ours we were looking at paying out 20-30k and even then the MH would still be 6 years old or older so we started looking at Cvans again and decided the value for money was much better also if we were towin the car anyway why not toe a Cvan. So at the NEC show we agreed to trade in our motorhome for a brand new cvan and then bought a tow car and all for a 3rd of the price it would have cost to get the MH we would have wanted. But we did enjoy the MH but looking forward to Caravanning again

Welcome back to the fold. I do agree that motorhomes do look expensive compared with caravans though.

We did take our motorhome over to France and Spain a few years ago which was great we done a 6 week tour and the parking was excellent we were able to take the van out and park in aires etc without any issues the only problem was it was a pain having to pack everything away each day before we went out.

We sold our caravan, car and everything in March 2014. Then in mid 2016 we had a hankering to return and initially looked st motor homes. But the things that put us off were having to pack ever time you went out, poor lack of MH parking in UK, difficulty exploring areas with narrow lanes and very importantly the inability to enter many parking areas for things like beaches, nature reserves etc due to height barriers. In many case even our Forester with roof box couldn't enter. So we decided to go back to a caravan and bought s budget outfit which in 12 months has been a great source of enjoyment.
