I can recall the thread John is talking about, It was around Autumn last year when we were both eagerly waiting for our Oklahoma's to be delivered.

I can recall that there was nothing in the thread confirming that aircon could not be fitted to the roof directly from Bailey, it seemed to be speculation from a previous Bailey owner. As Steve has proved the information in the thread was obviously incorrect.

Enjoy the Carolina Steve, as John has said the current Senators are great vans.

Thanks Alyson but that isn't the one !!

I see that I was asked a question about the mesh for strengthening the roof (by Ian I think)

Sorry that I didn't reply but we were in France by that time.

On reflection it may have been worded that Bailey wouldn't fit the air con which isn't quite the same as saying it couldn't be fitted.

Still its nice to know these things

I've just sent a mail to Bailey help desk to ask them to change the weight plate on my van to accomodate the mover and aircon. It will be interesting to see how this is handled.

Steve, please let me know how you get on changing the weight plate, we are in the process of changing our towcar to a Sorrento and increasing the MTPLM is something I would like to do if possible. What increase are you looking at as I am led to believe 50kg is possible.

Thank you for your email regarding your Bailey Senator Carolina.

It is possible to upgrade the weight of your tourer from 1739 to 1800.

This will cost

Do they not uprate tyres or suspension then.

Could it be that they quote lower spec figures to make the vans available for towing by lighter cars.

It seems odd to me

My understanding is that all manufacturers offer this service. If they where to add accessories themselves then they need the capacity in the existing design to allow it. What will happen is that they will change the M.T.P.L.M. from 1739kg to 1800kg and the M.R.O from 1459kg to 1530kg (1459 +34 for AC and 37 for mover)

user payload was 280kg and would have had the 71kg of new equipment taken from that.

New MRO will include the equipment and allow me 270kg of extras.

What this means is I don't have to worry about being pulled and weighed as the new plate will show the legal limit. And instead of loosing 71kg I loose only 10kg

I can see the advantage to you but when I have read of this before I understood that people were paying for something that was actually better rather than for a re-write of the spec/paper work.

If the load is being increased I would have thought heavier duty tyres would be included at the very least.

Otherwise why not plate the van at the higher rating to start with if it will take a higher load.

The only reason I can see is that if it was plated at a higher max weight then it would put people off buying who had lighter cars .

Would it be possible to argue if pulled up for being overweight that really its just a notional weight on the plate but for

I think you are correct with your theory John. Using myself as an example I have been towing the Oklahoma with my company vehicle an Accord Estate diesel and even though the kerbweight is over 1600kg the max tow of the Accord is 1500kg. If the MTPLM of the Oklahoma had been more than 1499kg we would not have been able to purchase the van. Moving to the Sorrento though it would be beneficial for me to increase the MTPLM to accomodate the mover. All British manufacters seem to be consevative in the payload allowance especially when compared to continental vans like the Hymers.

Hi Allyson

I have lost 71kg but I am having the van replated from a max weight of 1739kg to 1800kg

Therefor the replating gains me 61kg of the 71kg lost

so, I only loose 10kg of my allowance

WOW, this is getting hard to work out. But either way I don't have to pay the
