Bank counter erros

Just before holiday I paid my water bill across the counter at L"""""" bank.

When coming off hols I had a letter off Severn Trent to say that I still owed them £45.

I immediately got out my stamped receipt and saw to my horror that the wrong amount was written down....

Instead of £161.19 which was the correct amount, the counter clerk had put £116.19.

I know I didn't pay this amount has I had withdrawn the money out of the cashpoint. I clearly remember not having any change..
I went into the bank first thing monday morning. The lady who was on that day wasn't in.

Today she rang me saying there was no mistake, and she remembers me giving her £120. If I had done that I would have had a lot of changed. I never part pay any bill payments.

But I did this in cash She says for me to talk to the manager who is not in until a week on monday.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out if there was a mistake in cashing up etc..

Thanks

As you say, you need to discuss it with the manager. Surprised they still have one although it sounds like he/she is covering several branches.

They may indeed have found they were #45 in surplus but proving that was your money is trickier as you havea dated receipt, which you accepted. They may decide that as a goodwill gesture and as no other discrepancies have occurred that the balance is in your favour, and credit it you themoney. If they do not, then I cannot see what else you can do.

Hi,
You are able to show that you withdrew sufficient from ATM to pay the £161 bill?
Who decided how much you were going to pay? Was it printed on the bill? Or did you tell the cashier, verbally, how much to transfer? I presume you let her fill in the relevent details, on both pieces of paper?
