Hello all.
I am a new member and I have just got my first caravan.
It's a Elddis wisp 1996
I have found that the battery has blown and was wondering if it is easy to find out why.
I have read that keeping the battery in place over winter when ( not used ) can cause this.
This maybe what has happened as the seller did not take it off.
My worry is if I put a new battery on and it is overcharging it will blow again.
Overcharging I have been told is another way it might have happened.
I don't know how to test the charge rate so was hoping someone will know and let me know.
Thanks.

Sorry to hear of the problem. My first step would be to remove the battery, check the electrolyte levels and top up if required, clean the terminals and then put on a battery charger for 24 hours (not the caravan charger) . Then if you can measure the battery voltage, or take it to a battery station who will check it for you.

If its duff then a new battery will be required. But before fitting you should also then check the output of the caravans batter charger to se if that is working correctly. But would need to know the type/model of the caravan charger first.

Thanks for the reply
The battery is a total right off.
I have a new one but don't want to fit it before I know the caravan charger is working correctly.
It is a Elddis Wisp 350/2 1996.
I don't know where the charger is on it.

It will probably be underneath one of the front seats, could be in wardrobe but unusual. Follow cables from the EHU input and track them to the power supply box/charger. Then you should be able to identify the charger make/ model.

Had a look under the front seat, bit out of my depth now.
Lots of wires and boxes.
Going to get an expert look at it for me.
Thanks for the help. :)
