Repair a logic 1!!! don't even think about it, bin it or use it for something it's suitable for...a door stop perhaps!

Modern 'switch mode' 12v power supplies for caravans are far safer, they have much higher outputs and are straight forward to fit, you can get these from your local caravan dealer. However many people swear by 'Sterling' battery chargers, these are better still for your battery as they fully charge it and therefore keep it in better condition, their also cheaper!, try a search for these on the Net

P.S. while you can tell I don't like Logic1, I forgot to mention that your battery maybe faulty and overloading the charger.

Still not changing my advice but do get the battery checked.

Hello Anthony,

For an experienced electrician, the replacement of a Logic 1 type charger Is not a difficult task, but as you seem to be looking for detailed guidance, this suggests you are not confident with wiring, my best suggestion is to have the job done by a competent fitter.

Even though you are not likely to receive an electric shock form a 12V system, it is still necessary to take proper precautions, because if there is a possibility of a short circuit, then the 12V battery can still produce enough current to over heat cables and start a fire.

A 1A fuse at 12v output would barely power anything, I would think then it's a 240v input fuse, to increase it then to 3A is to be polite foolhardy!

Reference then what John says, 12v won't give you a shock directly but one hell of a shock when it sets fire to your van.

Depending on the charger your dealer wants to fit I would think the price is right for a 10/12A unit

Thanks to both of you I will take heed It was a salesman @ a caravan place that told me the 3 Amp fuse would be ok but I will get that changed as soon as possible. Is it possible to leave the Logic in without using it to charge then just use an independant trickle charger taking the crocadile clips off & wiring it to the fast release clips on the battery then just plugging the the mains in every month or so to keep the battery charged & then when I am on site it will keep the battery on charge all the time
