Hi all i have a Swift challenger sport I went to check the voltage on the battery and I heard a fizzing noise I touched the battery it was hot is this caused by the charger and i'm getting about 13.80 volts.
Battery fizzing in its compartment while being charged is this bad

Does not sound right, disconnect it for safety and get it checked.Don't think caravan charger will charge to that think fully charged a battery is about 12.7

I'm sorry to say that your battery has probably had it. The noise and heat indicate that it has boiled, which is a clear indication the battery is now failed. The boiling will have discharged sulphuric acid into the battery box, and you must assume the battery and inside of the box are both coated so do not touch them.
Disconnect all mains power from the caravan.
Allow the battery to cool, and then using rubber gloves remove it from the compartment.
Then still using rubber gloves wipe the inside of the compartment and the battery with a washing soda solution to neutralise any active acid, then wipe with fresh water. allow the compartment to dry thoroughly
13.8V is the normal charging potential for caravan batteries, and at this voltage the battery should not be damaged even over long periods, so it is likely the battery was not faulty or not properly maintained. Always follow the battery manufactures instructions regarding routine maintenance.

Right just checked it just now took it off and placed in the garage volt meter came up with 13.99 volts full battery? but i have 2 110ah batts shall i see if it does the same?Prof John L said:
Try a different battery yes, but keep a watch on it, any further sign of heat build up turn it off, and get the battery and the elctrical instalation checked by a specialist.
on charge now topped ionised water levels up so i will check tomorrow, no heat or fizzing I have a fiamm battery and took a reading with a volt meter.The charger read 12v on the volt Meter so all should be goodProf John L said:
