Battery operated door lift???

I have a colleague who is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease and whose range of movement is becoming very limited.

He and his wife are keen caravanners, however it has become extremely difficult/impossible for him to lift his feet from the ground and onto the caravan floor, the step distance ground to doorway is too great. His wife also finds it virtually impossible to lift his foot onto any sort of step, whilst balancing him at the same time. So the alloy 2/3 step devices are not suitable.

She has in the past seen a "single step" lift which was battery powered (car style battery) , this taking the form of a small platform that was contained in a frame, running on chains from an electric motor, initially sited at the ground level and raising up to the height of the caravan doorway. This would prove ideal, as he could be wheelchaired to the lift, stood up onto the platform, then his wife could stabilise him whilst at the same time setting the platform rising, on reaching the doorway he could step straight into the caravan. When it comes to leaving the caravan the reverse would apply.

Now the major problem, and one I hope you may be able to help with, she cannot remember where she saw this device or what its correct title was!!!!

Something similar would be the tailgate lift on a lorry (but a lot smaller!!) or a car seat height electric adjuster (but without the seat!!)

I have tried searching the internet but without avail similarly I have also tried local caravan outlets.

Have you guys ever come across such a device and if so could you please pass details.

Many thanks in advance

Best regards

Hello Stan

A quick Google search using

'disabled caravan conversions'

as the search string brought up the name of a company that seems to offer what your looking for.

Hope this helps

Thanks John,

About the only combination that I didn't enter!!!

Fry's Caravans certainly looks a possibility and have emailed them to enquired about their "electric step".

Thanks for the pointer

Best regards

Stan
