For a long while Lady Linda has had back problems in the van. After advice on here we bought a Duvalay gold topper but no better. Then found that the metal support rail was flexing slightly so made a support to strengthen it but only slight help to her back.Bit the bullet over the winter and bought a Duvalay shaped mattress and tried that along with topper and my back is fine but madame still suffering.Today I bought 20 new bedslats, not caravan ones but from a bed repair place, and replaced all of them on her side, hoping this fixes it otherwise I think we are going to have to pack up caravanning :(
off to Caravan Club national rally in a few weeks to try it out,
Has anybody any other suggestions

Could it be the chairs not the bed. Try different seating options before giving up. Also a visit to a local chiropractor may provide helpful advice.

Hi Dave know how Lady Linda feels!! :(
Have you tried just the new mattress on it's own without the topper, perhaps you are going overboard with both the mattress and the topper together, may be too soft.

Could be either but had chairs reupholstered with bed quality foam, things are definately better with the mattress but am hoping slats are sagging.Weighed the new slats and they are 30gms heavier, wondered if quest for lightness has given some wekness. We have a hard bed at home and am even thinking of some ply with holes drilled for ventilation .Will keep trying as without a caravan we'd never get away.Hotel or static bed could be a lot worse. The chairs are a good idea though might try a little lumbar support for her

Just a thought. ...
On some adjustable beds they have some double latts to make different areas harder or softer ( we have them on ours ) it would be quite easy to replicate with some velcro to hold them in place .....

Yes they are called rigidity adjusters, tried to buy some from where I got the slats from.Have thought of making some out of metal and doubling some of the old slats.
Thanks for the suggestion

Sadly they are 63mm x 8mm
That is where I got the slats from
I am thinking I could fold some aluminium sheet and pop rivet it together

Velcro wouldnt tighten enough so I used some strong zipties and it feels much firmer, looking forward to next Friday to try it out

Think we'll give it a go without the topper as well and some cushions for the seat in case its that

Aha,Queen Mel suggested that the seats could possibly be causing the problem not the bed so belt and braces.Lady Linda supplied the tiewraps though, dont know why she had a bag of those lieing around

Oh I SEE NOW
I thought you had a posh mattress or something with an in built seat ;)
B & Q had a rush back along on the tiewraps, something to do with a certain book that was released ;)
