Woohoo,

Just driven up the M6 on a very busy Saturday. Managed to get a whopping 68.9 average mpg with my Focus.

It's never been anything near that before, but I suppose there was no real place where I could put my foot down.

What are your record average mpg figures, and with what cars have you done them?

Greetings,

With fornd memories I recall having spent a bit too much on my last night in Cornwall and having to drive back to Yorkshire and knowing that I had to get 43mpg out of a 1275cc twin carbed A35Van.

We can scoff now at the ridiculous figures obtained these days but I can tell you that I had to sweat blood back in 1969. Remember, there was little in the way of Motorways then (Wolverhampton to Tewksbury if I remember).

Made it with bu**er all left in the tank.

we once had a Citroen BX and we filled up the tank in Leeds and drove down to Paris and drove back again with only 1 fuel stop. that was when cars didn't tell you what the fuel economy was like, so i don't know but i bet another car couldn't do that.

Returned yesterday from a trip to Bala with work. Had three passengers in my Passat 54 plate 1.9 Tdi so had to take it a bit easy on the windy roads due to travel sickness (terribly sorry white van man for holding you up, at least you got within 18 inches of my bumper for most of the way).

Computer in car showed I had achieved 60.2 mpg.

When I had the Picasso I could regularly get 999mpg on the computer when going down a local hill

That usually worked out at 44mpg at the pumps

My Land Rover has the aero dynamics of a breezeblock and a tendancy to pull to the left every time I pass a diesel pump. She will achieve 33mpg on a run and 25 around town.

She never complains when towing and doesn't drink any more juice. She Asks little from me other than a change of oil now and then and puts a big smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel!!

Oh and the

Filled up south of Cherbourg and drove from Southampton to Elgin (Morayshire) on the rest. Over 65 mpg average across nearly 750 miles fully laden in '96 A4 Avant 110bhp. At the time the car was about 18 months old with 15k on the clock. The VAG 1.9 110 bhp engine married to the A4 Avant was in my mind one of the best combinations ever. It was my wifes company car and was passed on to someone else at Scottish Hydro Electric. We encountered it some years later with 180,000 on the clock and had just had a new clutch. Other than routine services it had not missed a beat.

I find it easier on a shorter journey, I don't have the willpower to get excellent economy on a longer journey.

sorry didn't realise it was all about just getting people to post, i thought it was an information and advice site to do with caravaning where by people could do a search and if they could not find the subject they required then they post a New subject thread !.

surely it would be easier to bump the original thread rather than have people post exactly the same answers over and over again.
