best saloon ???

which would be the best saloon car if any capable of towing

a adria adora 612up with a permissible weight of 1700kg thanks

You are at the fatcat end of the market here even if you tow at 100% and the choice is limited to only a few like the premier class offerings from Merc, BMW, Lexus and the like.

Most of the reviews seem to favour the Mercedes E class and the BMW 5 series. I believe a BMW holds the UK towing speed record if you need to get to sites really fast

A dark horse might be the Chrysler 300c as the estate version gets quite a good write up.

Most if not all the heavyweights have rear wheel drive which is a plus for towing and with the sort of power levels available the choice of petrol or diesel is rather academic.

I have always fancied a BMW 7 series myself and used ones are very cheap but allowing my muddy dog on the beautiful leather seats would be sacriledge.

There's also Jags of course, an XJ or S type would manage the load well enough but they seem to be a bit low for negotiating lanes and field sites.

I have an E CLass merc dose the job very well, and re sale value is by far better than bmw re sale on jag is just a complete joke.

with regard speed as far as i know 60 mph is as fast as you can tow on british motorways

I am about to get a 5 series estate.

Max trailer load = 1800kg

Max nose weight = 90kg

The smaller engined A6's are front wheel drive.

I would go towards either a 5 series or E class. The 5 series won for me as the CO2 was so much lower and hence the car tax.

Steve.

We tow with a Vauxhall OMEGA 2.5 auto. would probably be better with a 3.0/3.2 but the 2.5 is certaily adequate. cheap to buy reliable and a lot of toys for what you pay.

Don't be fooled into thinking that only modern expensive cars will tow caravans.

You can pick up a perfectly reliable and highly satisfactory towcar saloon for well under
