Bikes at Baltic wharf

Hi, we are going to Baltic Wharf CC Site in the October half term, our son 10, want to take his bike, we wonder if, as this is a city center site ,it is advisable to take the bike, not so much for security issues, more to is it safe to cycle around this area and are there places to ride. Thank you for any advice.

My wife and I visited the site this summer. Visitors are given a key to get out of the bottom of the site. Once out of the site we cycled to the town centre passing the SS Great Briton on the way. The rout is traffic free and flat. You could also sit outside the pub just outside the gate enjoy a meal and a pint and watch your son peddle up and down the dock side in traffic free comfort. Take your son to see the SS Great Briton a mile away, enjoy the walk and the excellent attraction.

It's a few years since I was at BAltic Wharf but I wouldn't have said it was a cycle-friendly site. As sandt has said, there is access to the quayside but would you want a ten year old cycling there? I think you would have to travel from the site to find decent cycling tracks.

I forgot to mention that if you go out of the entrance of the site, cross the main road with care, you can gain access to the national cycle route. It follows the Avon under the suspension bridge and all of the way to the coast traffic free. I would not let a 10 year old do this on his own but would have no problem with my kids cycling along the dock side the path is very wide
