We bought a brand new Bailey Champagne(MTPLM 1350) two years ago now and judging by a lot of posts, it seems the trouble we had with tow vehicles is a standard rite of passage for newcomers : I'm sure Caravan salesmen could and should be more helpful ! I've just traded our Avensis for an 03 BMW 320 D se which according to the book weighs 1490. Has anybody any experience of towing with a BMW320D (Saloon)?

Cheers

I had an 03 320D SE and towed a 98 Award Daystar (MTPLM 1400 from memory), and it towed beautifully. There's only the two of us who go away now, so I doubt very much if the 'van was ever at max. load, as we always put as much of the heavy stuff in the car as we can. If you're relatively new to 'vanning, always bear the 85% ratio in mind - I've been 'vanning for over thirty years now, and anytime I was travelling over this recommendation, I made sure I always adjusted my speed etc. accordingly.

Hi John,

We currently tow our Sterling Europa 540 (MTPLM 1490kg) with a 2006 320d SE with a kerbweight of 1505kg and 163BHP. While the car has loads of power it can feel as if the van pushes the car around on occasion especially over uneven surfaces. No real dramas though I'm pleased to report and I'm sure you'll be fine with your chosen combination. Have fun!
