Interesting Geoff. Most reports say that the car gives a harsh ride and not to go for the sport as the suspension is much stiffer thatn the standard SE model. Others here and elsewhere also say the car tends to Pitch back and forth, any comments.

Wheel base is longer than the Freelander two I'm told so we can't see that it would be a major isssue.

My son has been offered nearly 10K off the UK list price, and has spoken to a fellow officer who tows with the 3 litre auto and finds the ride fine and towing fuel consumption better than the 2 litre.

ps

We are awaiting email confirmation from Westfalia that their detachable tow hitch is rated for 100kg noseweight, as we have been told that this is correct by two tow bar fitters.

Well I never drove the SE so I can not comment on the ride but given that it has sports suspension and is stiffer I dare say you will feel the road a bit more but it handles like a car what I mean it has little body roll .But this will cancel out the reports of the car tending to pitch back and forth dont you think like I have said it tows our van great .Have you tried reading the Parkers Guide it gives a very good write up on all cars. As well as the MPG , BHP, Speed ,ECT

As I have said before I have had a BMW detachable tow bar fitted by BMW garage and it states 85KG and when towing I get a average 26mpg and some times upto 28mpg towing a ace award morningstar out of the X3 2.0d SE and there is no problem towing and hills are no problem at all I would recommend one any day of the week

Just heard that 3.0sd M Sport has been ordered Philip and thank you for your input. Very helpfull.

Westfalia supply BMW brand Tow Bar we've been told, but Westfalia offer another approved detachable towbar that offers 100kg NW. BUT we are awaiting confirmation from Westfalia.

85kg will be OK but 100 would give a little more leeway.

The pc tow car awards gives 78kgs as max nose weight.

Update.

We've had confirmation from BMW and Westfalia that there is a Westfalia detachable tow bar that carries 100kg nose rating.

When looking at nose weight it seems that it may be worth checking out different tow bar brands.

Thanks to all.

Hi Shady, I tow my Bailey Senator Virginia with my 2.0d Sport X3 and can honestly say it is the best tow car i have ever had, haveing had a Freelander, Shogun sport and other saloon car's the X3 knocks spots of all of them, on a trip from Nottingham to Birmingham i can easily achieve 30mpg, also the cars firm suspension helps with stability,The handbook states a noseweight of 85kg which isn't to bad. overall i am very pleased with my X3.
