Hi, we are thinking of buying a new awning, the one we like is the Bradcot Active. Does anyone own one and what do you think, or do you own any Bradcot awning. Please let me know the good and hopefully not so many bad, thanks.

Craig, we have a Bradcot Active and find its a great awning.

The easy alloy poles are good, its made of good quality material, and Bradcots after sales service is brilliant.

I remember it well.... Devon two years ago, "easy up" system gave way in (not that strong) winds. Pole dropped scratching and dinting 18mth old Pageant Moselle.

Bradcot didn't want to know but were prepared to sell me replacement poles for

Whilst we all have differing reactions from Customer Services in different places, try Renault for bad service!!, I have found Bradcot to be excellent.

I had a problem with one of the main panel zips, Bradcot arranged to have the awning collected from my house, on the Isle of Wight, taken back to their factory, and replace the zip, then returned to my house. They said it would be 7 to 10 days, but 3 days later it was back with me, ready for the weekend, and ,at NO CHARGE to me whatsoever.

We have a Bradcot and can't fault it. Bro in-law had great service from them when his was damaged.

I would never ever buy and Alluminium framed awning, Steel poles will bend and bend and can be straightened or welded and repaired with little effort.

The nice alluminium poles will bend and fracture if things get nasty, you may save a little weight but in bad weather conditions they can be a real problem.

Many tents are designed with weather conditions in mind. Awnings just appear to be designed for the convenience of use and fitting to the van. We have some extra inner suppport poles and straps for use when the weather gets windy as we've seen to many Awnings of all sorts fail.

Craig,

We have the same awning with easy up poles..no probs to report from this end...and they do tell you not to use the tie down straps with that type of poles...But anything that makes the job easier is good in my book!!

Reasonable priced, good quality awning as far as i can see..

hope this helps

I bought a Bradcot awning in 1985 and have used it many many times over the years. It has given excellent service, the only problems that we have had are one tooth on a zip disappeared years ago and Bradcot offered to replace the zip free of charge but we have just lived with it - no problem, and of course the rubber "bands" for pegging down have required regular replacements. The awning is now up for sale because we have bought a bigger van, if we buy a new awning I would definitely go for a Bradcot!

Had the Bradcot Classic with our last van for 4 years without incident. Easy to erect and stable in any weather, never experienced any adverse effect even in severe winds and heavy rain. Now changed our van and have bought a Bradcot Active which we are using as a large porch awning with the Porch pad and extra pole. Only had it since June but used it 4 times in varying weather, again without incident. I think for the price, they represent value for money and if you decide to get one I'm sure you wont be dissapointed.

I'm equally confident that with any product there will always be some that have 'not so good experiences' and may not therefore recommend that product.

'You pay your money and you take your pick.' Good luck.

We got a new Bradcot Active with ally poles with our new van earlier this year, I have put it up about 10 times.

I like the curtain arrangements and the vented end panel particularly.

Quality is good though some of the zips stitching is starting to go a bit at some of the ends.

The pole system is good though some of the poles are bending a little.

One difficulty that would also apply to the Sport - there is nothing to stop the front of the awning lifting in winds during erection (if someone is holding the centre pole make sure they hold it above the sliding sections), I use a screw in spike and some cord to stop this - I also use this when just using the awning as a sun canopy without the panels.

The only real moan I have got is the silly rubber pads that always fall off the lateral poles (I am thinking of gluing them).

Otherwise in still conditions I can put up our 1020cm awning fully incl pegging in about an hour on my own.

8/10
