Brakes

Hi,Im new to caravaning and need to find info on servicing a 1983 avondale perle olympic brakes. The hand brake is fully up and only works when the last notch is used, allso how do you know that when the hitch is pushed back the brakes work properly as you cant push it back by hand?I can reverse the van no proplem BUT surely the brakes SHOULD stop me doing this??Any drawings or online manuals would help.I like to do all servicing myself to keep the costs down as if i took it to get it serviced by a caravan dealer it would cost me more than i payed for the van.

Hi Russell,

It's not something I would really like to do myself as you will have to get the brakes to bite at the same time to avoid pulling to one side if you brake hard, but I understand many people do their own servicing. If you go to the top of the page and click on the Helpline link, scroll down to the Avondale Caravan Owners club there is an email address listed for Mike.garner. I dont know if you would need to join the club to get some advice but it is worth an email he may be able to direct you in the right direction to get the info you need. Hope this is some help for you.

ok well it was worth a true Russell, there is another Avondale club link there but you need to join it to access anything

Check out my web site http://www.stowford.co.uk/faultfinder the "how to" then B&B brake shoe removal, even if not B&B princible is the same. regards Darren
