Going to look at a few more caravans this weekend. I should have asked this long ago, but is there any way to check whether the caravan brakes are working before you hitch up? Also, I believe they are drum brakes - is it the same system used on a car? I am well accustomed to cleaning up old rear drums on cars so hopefully I can do the same on the caravan. Where is the best place to site a jack and axle stands on a caravan? Will a normal car trolley jack suffice, or do I need a special piece of kit? I have already ordered the Haynes Caravan Handbook, will be getting the workshop manual in due course.

Thanks for any advice. As much detail as possible is appreciated, but you will have to spell it out for me please! 🙂

Wait until you get the Haynes manual, it is all there, with pictures.
