Breakaway Cable Don't Fit !!

Help!

I have a witter detachable towball system, however the holes for the breakaway cable will not allow the clasp to pass throu'.

The cable cannot be looped around the towball (witters advice) so what can I do to make it work?

I have read somewhere that when certain circumstances prevail it is deemed acceptable to loop the breakaway cable over the ball. I will try to find the article.

Buy a small "D" shackle (B&Q etc.) and fit it to your existing point. Make sure that you peen the end of the thread after fitting to ensure the pin cannot work loose. Stainless from a boat shop is better than plated.

We have a detachable tow bar and use a shackle type cable which clips into a hole on the permanent part of the towbar. In 6 years havent had a problem.

I bought a boat D shackle as suggested and have had no probs since and the breakaway clip clips on much easier than through a hole on the car
