Yesterday I received my renewal notice for my breakdown/recovery from the company that offers deals through the C&CC. It is huge.

Today I phoned the company that has a deal with the C&MHC, there's is ONE THIRD the one I'm currently using and I'm not a member of that club.

What are members thoughts on this,,as the cover SEEMS to be the same with each.

We've used Mayday for years, cover both cars. The service provided, not had to call out for about 5 years, has always been very good. Price has always been competitive especially when compared to AA and RAC.

Have always used Greenflag/Mayday and have had to use them twice (tyre blow out on van, and exhaust fell off car). They were good on both occasions but so have AA or Britannia been when used for solo cars. The reason I stick with a club's recommended partner breakdown service is that they are geared to dealing with outfits, and whilst towing that is what I deem to be the key requirement. Although whilst the car is still under warranty I would call their assist partner if the car had the problem to ensure the warranty is not affected, but Mayday if it was a van problem.

I take it you rang Green Flag. I believe the cover you get is not as comprehensive as through Mayday so watch for length limits and cover for breakdown of the caravan. The club policy also does double recovery and I think that is not covered in the standard one.
I would look at the different cover on the web sites and see if the Green Flag is good enough for you.

Mayday always for us, cover for caravan, 2 cars, 2 motor cycles, - me or the wife driving, covered when (if) driving others cars, even covers a car that you may be passenger in, that is uncovered. I haven't thought of a circumstance we're not covered for. Used them 3 or 4 times over 30+ years always had a superb service from them. Even to delivering us back home one evening (out of garage hours) then picking the car up next morning to take to garage for repair. If you get what you pay for then we've had superb value. Don't even look at alternatives these days.

Thanks for the info folks,,we're not in the C&MHC , we've always been in the C&CC as we started out in tents and progressed as we aged,,

Not even sure if it might be financially viable to join the C&MHC to get Mayday and still work out cheaper than my present deal.

How much is C&MHC membership please.

I can get greenflag cover without joining but not the Mayday deal as offered through C&MHC but I've been reading both packages and the cover SEEMS to be the same but C&MHC price is £14 dearer.
What am I missing.

Membership is currently £49 and necessary in order to take out the 'Mayday' branded version. There are usually deals whereby you get something worth about £15 or so back when you first take out Mayday

One thing to bear in mind is that Mayday is UK ONLY. Not so good if you go abroad because you then need to 'top it up' and the C&MC 'Red Pennant' offering maybe good but is super expensive. You might want to consider other providers such as Brittania (LV=) or ADAC (German based. Often praised, but some consider it a hassle).

Edit: I think you will find that only the 'Mayday' version includes 'dual-recovery' as a right .... although sometimes you may get lucky with a particular recovery operator anyway. ( 'Dual recovery' means: take you and your vehicle(s) to your holiday destination, AND THEN, if your vehicle cannot be repaired by the end of your holiday, take your vehicle(s) back to your home location)

The dual recovery is our main reason for going with Mayday but also length restrictions do not apply. With a twin axle this is quite important.

IF you need to use the dual recovery you do need to be a little careful, or at least not as daft as us. We got taken to the site we were going to. We then went for the option of having the car taken to the nearest main dealer as car was under warranty. This counted as the second journey. The car wasn't ready a week later so we had no second journey and were a little stranded. My mother had to collect the boss and two children while one child stayed to look after me until the car was ready.

We have just switched from being long standing AA members as they wont recover our TA and the Discovery, We essentially looked at ADAC, didn't respond to emails so dismissed them, then looked at C&CC offering as we were members this is Arrival by the RAC which seems pretty good and includes recovery of the van to your storage and car to home or garage, but to get the level of cover we wanted it was £220 (£310 including European cover), so we then looked at Mayday and while it didn't do the dual recovery location it was only £130 , £180 with C&MHC membership which we had toyed with taking out anyway to increase the choice of CL/CS we had. So Mayday/Green flag got our money.

have looked at RAC Arrival and the cover is compatible with Mayday but does cost a bit more. If you are a member I would go with that.
Mayday and Arrival do cover the caravan breaking down and give dual recovery benefit. This means if you break down on the way to a site they will get you there and if the repair cannot be carried out before your return they bring you back.
Other things that might not appear are cover if you are on tour and break down when away from the site. Will they take you to the site to pick up the caravan if needed.
