New to caravanning and recent bought our first Bailey Pageant Auvergne 2001. Front steadies are broken and when my partner has tried to remove them some bolts are turning with the nut. I called local caravan repairs and they advised be near impossible to get new steadies due to the age of the caravan? Could we just use two scissor jacks whilst holidaying? The rest of the caravan is immaculate so be a shame to have to scrap it just because the front steadies. Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Normally the steady bolts go through the floor. If you pull the Lino back you should see the head then it can be held to stop it turning.
I see no problem using a scissor jack but they need to be under the chassis not the floor.
You could probably use more modern steadies but you may need to drill new holes.

I would prefer to change the steadies to newer ones so it would just be the case of pulling floor back and drilling new holes for the new bolt? And could I purchase any new steadies then? Thank you so much for your advice it’s really appreciated.

I have replaced several corner steadies on caravans for my customers. The main thing is to measure the pitch between the securing bolts and the overall length of the exiting steady , then pick a similar one( you will never get a perfect match). then to remove the broken ones I use an angle grinder to grind off the nuts to release the steady.leaving the origonal bolts in place , then fit the new steady in place ( i use a hydraulic jack to hold the steady in place whilst I mark the hole positions) and drill through the floor and fit the new bolts ( using dome headed bolts) . generally the new holes are under beds e.t.c so aren't too intrusive
