Hi, I have just had my 200 Fleetwood Colchester 500eb written off as a rear panel cannot be gotten hold of since they went bust!.

The loss adjuster has made me a second off after i regected the first one. The second offer still isnt what I was hoping for, but they have refused to increase their offer any more. Some one has suggested that we accept the offer but say we want to retain the caravan to either hava ago at repairing myself, to to sell as salvage.

How do I go about this? and do you think the loss adjuster would agree to this? If not any Idea how much I should accept to include keeping the caravan? We have been offered £4400 and the cost of a new panel (last know list price) and labour is approx £3250.

Would appreciate any help with this.

Thanks

Alan

Ask the Loss Adjuster how much he has been offered for the salvage net of removal and any transport costs. I doubt it will be very much. Then you can decide. He has no technical nor legal reason not to offer the salvage to you for the cheapest net price.

Don't for one minute think Fleetwood manufactured the rear panel themselves. I bet you can get one more easily than you think. Was it GRP or ABS? There are plenty specialist fabricators in both materials whom I am sure could help you , never mind the salvage merchants.

Just remember at the moment the caravan belongs to you and you alone. The Loss Adjuster cannot sell it until you have agreed the final gross figure, then you have the option to buy the salvage. Actually an easier exercise for the adjuster.

Can't help on values but surely there is a friendly dealer nearby who can help or can find a similar van up for sale at a greater price to prove yours is also worth more than that offered?

Cheers

Can a new GRP panel not be supplied or made by AutoXtra? So the caravan can be repaired.

As far as I know they are still in business and they made a new panel for a friends older caravan that had the rear panel crashed in to.

And there is at leats one other company who makes one off replacement panels.
