buying a new caravan

hello, we are looking to buy our first new caravan and I am wondering what reasonable discount would you expect on a £11500 van paying cash? I have a good idea of haggling for cars but being new to caravans I wonder what experienced buyers expect?
 
Depends on what kind of 'van you are going for and what margin the dealer is working to. From personal experience the discount on new Bailey's is zilch!
 
As the others say don't expect any discount on baileys yet. However, see the dealer at the end of the month and buy a van they have in stock. Sale of that van will help their figures so you are more likely to get a discount

Looking at the prices given by other suppliers for the same models Baileys already give you a discount within there prices.

I agree with what others say, you dont seem to get discount on a Bailey, we managed to get a free first service thrown in with a lot of begging.

If you know what model of van you want and are prepared to wait there may be an end of season sale when the new vans come out. We got
 
thanks guys. We will shop around and see what deals are on offer. We are looking again at a Compass Corona tomorrow, which we really like the look of.
 
There are a couple of points worth considering here Kevin. Are you desperate to buy one now - wait for the shows and you will get fantastic discounts if you purchase direct from a manufacturer at a show. The next big one, depending where you live, I believe is at the 3 Counties Showground in Malvern Worcester. However if you do buy from a show or visit one of the large supermarket type dealers be careful regarding the warrenty as you have to take the van back to the supplier for an annual service to ensure the warranty is not void. If you should buy from a show make sure that the van can be serviced at your local dealer so that you will not be inconvenienced in having to travel a distance for the service and the warranty remains honoured.
 
Kevin go around your dealers and find the caravan that you like and ask him how much for a cash sale ,if he is not prepared to give you any thing ,go home and look on the caravan makers website and find out who sells there vans ,and send them all an email and ask them how much they will sell that van for on the road ,we moved to swansea in Wales 4 years ago so naturaly we went to our nearest dealer and asked the price for cash ,and he wouldnt give us a pound off on a bailey pageant Moselle ,yet i went to place just of junction 18 on the M4 and got the same caravan
 
A lot of dealer specials are based on the Compass Corona and the Elddis Avante (virtually the same).These offer exceptional value either giving much higher spec than the base van or simular spec at a much lower price. Look at Barrons Firestorm range . Brian (",)
 
hi, there is a site called www.caravanfinder.co.uk they have alot of caravans around the uk from private to dealers.you can look and see who will do it the cheapest and phone around and haggle.i did when i bought my 1st van new back in oct 05.

Lots of good advice already given, but here's another thought. Caravan models generally change around August / September so the 07 model year (MY) will be available soon.

If you are not absolutely set on the very latest model, look for the 06 or even 05MY vans there may be in stock, and you should be able to get a serious discount for cash. The warranty will be as good (or as bad) since it only starts on sale date, not manufacture date.

This might enable you to stretch your budget figure a bit. Good luck !
 
You would be better off going to a caravan show there is one in the NEC in Birmingham in October and when you go round the various dealers you can haggle with each one for example tell the dealer offered you a spare wheel and he might say well I will give you spare wheel and awning it is the best place to haggle to get a good deal.
