You are making it sound as if the Santa Fe is very unreliable car and this is simply not true.

The XC90 is not a totally reliable car either,it has known transmission problems after 30 - 40 k miles,i did my research when i looked at one 2 years ago,i found this info on the Volvo Forums also servcing is on par price wise with BMW.

the santa fe is not a rubbish car. in fact its a great car great fuel economy, very comphy, tows the van well except up a steep hill when we just put the autobox into manual.

its had its niggles but most new cars do until the niggles are ironed out.

i am happy with it apart from i could use a bigger boot and this burning smell, the bearing/dif noise and the dry bush noise.

lets see what they say on wednesday.

hi jo yes indeed you did have a lucky escape there so yes i can see why you are worried especially with kids in the back

but i know im going to grilled about this but in my opinion the santa fe is total rubbish from day 1 if you pay twenty odd thounsand pound for a car you expect it to work nice looking car but that is about all only looks nice.

but jo get that burning smell asap cant you get it checked by the aa or rac?

take care
