Is there anyone from the club prepared to discuss the merits or otherwise of their pitch allocation system in this Forum. If given the choice would not the vast majority of people like to select their pitch. I hear some of the reasons given by wardens etc but in my experience when on site I dont think they stand up to much scrutiny. I hope we can get a discussion going with the club. Remember the clubs motto RUN BY MEMBERS FOR MEMBERS

Hi Peter,

Of the last eight C&CC sites we've stayed on seven have given us a choice of pitch, obviously, within the limits of type of pitch booked.

However, there is obviously an issue here with some sites - I guess we've just been lucky.

I do find the thought of being 'allocated a pitch'a bit too officious. It's like invitng a visitor into your home and then directing them to a particuler chair and telling them to sit and not to move. You wouldn't do it (well, maybe with the mother-in-law).

Yes,lets have someone from the club on the forum to justify this practice.

Dave

We have so far been to 3 C & CC sites and were offered a choice of pitch at all of them

We're off again in a couple of weeks, i'll let you know if there is any change

We haven't been to many c&cc sites but the ones we have been to have given us a choice and also been helpful when we were expecting other caravans to join us, though pointing out that the pitches couldn't be reserved (which we knew) Always very friendly and helpful.

We use the C&CC sites regularly, if I book via the internet then I always fill in the "Any special requests" box. This means that when we visit a site, we can normally get a pitch around the perimeter, rather than being stuck in the middle. We haven't had that much bother with pitch selection otherwise!

Some people have obviously been lucky in their choice of sites - I have not been so lucky, but those that have commented are still only being given a choice from the pitches that the warden would like you to choose from which is slightly different from driving around a site and selecting your pitch (bearing in mind that some pitches are not available). If certain sites can let you choose why can't they all. To Dave & Dee - thanks for your support in trying to get the C&CC to comment.

I really don't mind the C&CC system - the wardens will usually do their best to accommodate any reasonable request, and not all sites lend themselves very well to cruising round looking for a pitch. It can be very painless to make one's preference known and to be 'placed' by someone who knows the site.

Those of us who typically arrive at popular CC sites on Friday evenings often don't get much of a choice anyway. I like both clubs, they each have their own ways of doing things, just with different compromises.

I never cease to be amazed at what people will moan about - if there isn't a problem, they'll invent one.

I have been using C&CC sites for a number of years and at most I am normally invited to indicate any particular preferences and the staff normally try to accommodate these.

Obviously the ability to do this varies from site to site and at differing times of the year. I have experienced a few C&CC sites where expressing a preference is not invited but this tends to be at very busy sites where the Site Managers may well be needing to plan pitch utilisation from known requests from other bookings or knowledge of the sizes of Units due to arrive.

There is an understandable reluctance to have Units cruising around the site trying to choose a pitch particularly at busy times and where there is a steady flow of arrivals the staff are trying to ensure that they are being properly booked in and part of that process is knowing which pitches have been taken.

Simple question to Alan and Alun -Given the choice would you go for allocation or choice of pitch. If as I suspect the vast majority of members would prefer the choice option, then should not the club be responding.I hear what you say Alun and agree with you on some of the practicalities involved but think the club over a period of time could fulfill their members wishes, what about starting with low season pitch choice. I think the club is in general first class but pitch choice would make it even better

I'm a C&CC member and although I have no strong feelings either way on this subject it would be interesting to see a response by C&CC officials. I don't know if they ever read this forum so I've taken the liberty of copying and pasting Peter's original post onto their online enquiry form and invited their comments.

The form states that they will get back to me within 3 working days so I'll let you know what happens.

Peoples opinions will always differ. You will never come across a company or a club that will please everyone. What is right for one is wrong for another.

I feel that if you have a problem with beoing given a choice of pitches then it is your problem, not the company/clubs problem. I am sure that a lot of people would prefer to be given the choice of pitches although I am also sure a lot of people would prefer to be able to pitch where they like.

I would like to ask all those complaining the following question...

Do you please everyone all of the time?

I bet the honest answer would have to be no and those of you that say yes I think you may need to ask others to answer the question for you.

My point, and I know its a long one is...

All opinions are valid, however, they are personal opinions and not everyone will have the same opinion.

Thanks again Parksy. In reply to Chelsea -I am only saying what a vast majority of the club members would like. After all the club is run by members for members. It works well for the CC. One thing the club could do is a survey The survey would take little amount of time and effort and at no cost.It would be quite simple, when a new member joins and/or when an existing member pays their yearly subs or even when they arrive on site, a small box to tick with one's preferences is all it would need.I would be more than happy to stand by the results if the club would also agree to act on the results. A golden oppotunity was missed by the club on its recent survey. The relevent question could have been asked then.

Hi Chelsea.

Question 1: Are you a member of the C&CC?

If your answer is 'NO',then thanks you for your answer and goodnight.

If your answer is 'YES', move on to question 2.

Question 2: Do you believe in freedom of choice?

Do you see where we're going with this now?

Hi Alan - like you I am also happy with my club and the way it is run, except for this one issue. So as we both belong to a democratic club lets have a survey and let the club look at acting on it's results.

As an experienced and regular vanner I would like to offer some of my thoughts when choosing a pitch. I think people who are experienced may well echo them. It's not one particular thing that attracts you to a pitch, but a combination eg. size, location - under trees, near services, sun position, neighbours, car parking, room for awning, views from van and many more, and, of course, it usually has to be a compromise, but you certainly get a feel for a pitch (or against) and that's important if you are staying for more than a few days and it could indeed be your main holiday. It is very hard to explain all or many of the above things to a warden who may well also have his own agenda on pitch allocation. Surely the only fair way is to allow choice. I am sure some of the club's sites could adapt quite easily to a trial. A survey seems to be a good idea.

I totally agree with Jane, as we take all these things into consideration when having the choice to choose a pitch. The Caravan Club allow choice so it can,t be that problematical. If the choice was offered on arrival, those who like a choice get one and those who aren't bothered where they go could be allocated an available spot. Surely then everybody is happy.

(I think Chelsea must have been having a bad day).

Hi Jane and Chrissylizzie - I am sure your comments are very relevant and what many people think. I am aware pitch choice is not something the club could do overnight, and would not expect them to,but why not as a trial on certain sites and in the quiter periods give it a go. In the meantime carry out a survey as proposed earlier on what people want. As Chrissylizzie points out those who are not bothered can still plump for pitch allocation. It would be nice if the C&CC gives us some positive feedback about finding out about their members views, because their answers may well influence people visiting this forum who may be thinking of joining our club.
