Sorry for the delay - just noticed your post. Not sure which model of the C5 you're thinking about, but I've got a 2005 facelifted (Mk 2) version of the car which I've had from new and I'm in no hurry to change it. Mine has the 138 bhp version of the 2.0 HDI engine whereas earlier models had the 110 bhp engine. I am absolutely delighted with my car which pulls a Bailey Pageant Champagne S6 with ease. Been over mountain passes, etc without any problems. A friend had the earlier Mk 1 version, but despite less power, it also made an excellent towcar. The current Mk 3 version is much bigger and heavier and although a good car suffers a little from the lack of power in the early versions, but newest cars can have a 160 bhp 2.0 HDI engine and should be better. Even the early version is still a good towcar and will be much better than the 1.9 Xantia non-turbo diesel (but not all Mk 3 models have the hydraulic self-levelling suspension). I had a 1998 2.1 Xantia which was very good, but performance fell right off when I got a fault with the turbo. Early Mk 1 models of the C5 suffered a few reliability problems (mainly electronics), but later models were much improved. Mine has been impressively reliable (crosses fingers), so if you go for it, get the latest version that you can afford.
