Hi to all...

just looking for a gas fired BBQ,looked around & leaning strongly towards the Cadac range.Various prices about, but still price checking as "we" are in a buyers market.

The cadac looks quite difficult to keep clean ! as it will be my "toy" & will be left to me to clean...any views on the cleaning aspect.

Another make is the Thermos 2go,same as my mates, but can only source from USA, postage is expensive.

Any other reccomendations appreciated.

Thanks Terry

Hi Terry,

We recently got a Cadac Carri Chef Delux and think it's fantastic. We have made pancakes for breakfast, a full english and done a few steaks on the griddle. I have also used the skottle pan for paella, currys and cassroles. It is not difficult to clean although you may need to take it to the campers kitchen on site as it is quite big and not much room in the sink in the van. We have used it at home too as it is easy to assemble. I will be using it on Tuesday to make my pancakes as it gives you a large cooking surface and easy to control the temperature. We looked at our local caravan shops and then online and got a great offer online so do shop around.

We have a Cadac and find it really good (if a little bit heavy, but you can't have everything can you).

Re cleaning - the Cadac cleaner spray make the post holiday clean much easier. The carry bag keeps all the bits together for travelling.

I would be wary of getting something from USA as the gas pressure may be different to European models and also if you need any spares, it will be a nightmare.

Hi Terry

we've got a Cadac (cant remember which one) and it is very good.

However its quite heavey and to be honest I got fed up of fiddling around with it , making it up then dismantling to go and clean it.

We're leaving ours at home now to use for adhoc barbies.

As a result we started to look for alternatives and, whilst we haven't got one yet, our local Wyvale Garden centre had a very good range and pricewise was similar if not a lot cheaper than Cadac. So might be worth you looking at them if you have one near to you.

Thanks Zafiral, parts would be a possisble problem,as for gas pressure,i have a propane regulator that i use for oxy/propane cutting that can be regualated very accurately. The cleaning spray is also supposed to do what it says on the can...Terry

Yes, the weight issue always has to be addressed ,taking the awning, bikes ,dog (45kg) etc etc will the bbq be the straw that breaks the Jeep's back or the LAW.

We use to have a Wyevale, moved though....been into Dobbies at weekend but look too big & even too much fiddling about for me........Terry

Hi Terry

I've got a Cadac Easi-Chef. It's very, very good at what it does - but it's no substitute for a charcoal bbq.

They are heavy, as has been mentioned here. They aren't difficult to clean - but they're also not a piece of cake either. That said, they're no more difficult than cleaning the griddle of a normal bbq.

I wouldn't swap mine but I'm thinking of buying a charcoal bbq too.

But then I'm a bit of a gadget junkie.....

Have taken all points onboard I agree that it is one of the best on the market, although quite heavy, good at what it does.I already have a charcoal/ volcanic rock gas one which unfortunately will not split easily to take in the van.......Thanks Mac.

Hi

We have the larger cadac but like others found it to be heavy so I got one of the small folding cadacs made for camping etc. this is a great bit of kit have cooked for 6 on it with no problems. I put it on a table but I make sure there is a non slip covering on the table, once lost a lovely steak as the whole lot slid of the table when I moved it. ( to much wine!! )

We have the same model as you.

Personally I find it a nightmare to clean.

The large diameter makes it unwieldy even in the site kitchen sink. The worst part of cleaning is the big plate directly above the flame jets.

That aside it's a great BBQ with plenty of room and heat to cook food properly. With all the bags and accessories it is very heavy!!

Cheers

I have had my original cadac for a few years now and it is a very robust item.

I set it up and cook breakfast and dinner on it,i also have the lid and cook joints of meat in it.

To clean i usually let it cool down and spray with cadac cleaner and leave for a few minutes,as for size i use the big plastic stacker crate (the one i carry my beer in)as a cleaning bowl, fits niceley and also i can do it outside.

How does the plate above the flames manage to get dirty?

I tend to use the griddle or the flat side and only ever have to wash this.

Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds really easy to clean, the spray seem well worth the money...got to be easier than washing up in the van ....Terry

I don't know. We last used the grille mesh and all the burnt fat stuck to the flame protector plate. So I had two lots to scrub! I have to admit the chicken was also a bit burnt!

A word of advice always make sure that the connection from the gas to the cadac is screwed tightly with a spanner or plyers. We had an accident with our Cadac on Tuesday night where there was a light back and it ignited the plastic casing around the ignition button. Having tightened the nut with a spanner we are not sure what caused this but having spoke to Cadac they have said there must have been a gas leak. Cadac customer services have been fantastic and are replacing the full burner without charge even though it was only the plastic casing that was damaged. Great customer service.
