Caen Stop over

We have decided to have a 2 day stop over in Caen Nomandy in August before we catch the Caen-Portsmouth ferry back to the UK. any recomendatiom of campsites would be deeply appreciated.

Les Pommiers in Ouistreham is OK for a couple of days and 5 minutes from the ferry. It is adjacent to the canal and short walk from the town or a bike ride along the towpath to Pegasus Bridge museum. It is not the best site in the world but its convenience makes up for its slightly shabby facilities.

I agree with another David Les Pommiers is very convenient for the local area, and the ferry is only 5 minutes away.

Percy,

We have always found the laid back, simple ambience of Camping Des Capucines at Ranville to be the perfect place to spend a couple of days at the beginning or end of a continental trip. The toilet blocks are clean, most pitches have an individual water connection and waste water outlet. The site is about 10 minutes from the ferry port, over Pegasus Bridge.

Enjoy your trip

Don't tell everyone what a nice site Camping Des Capucines at Ranville is for a relaxed plesant stop over and for the ferry, even the late arriving one

We soon will not get in for our twice annual visit.
Just budget enough time running for the ferry that the Pegasus bridge over the canal might be up whilst a vessel passes! Only the once though in 20 years, last July.

PS: these days Capucines is on email ( campingdescapucines.14@orange.fr )

.....strictly speaking Pegasus Bridge is a museum exhibit and a memorial at the dedicated museum next to its original position over the Caen canal.
The French would be very annoyed if you tried to drive over it!
The replacement that carries the road over the canal today was built in 1994 and is built to look like the original.

I do agree that Camping Des Capucines at Ranville is a good site.
