calling all electricians

Calling all electricians,I have 3 @ 50w spot lights at 240v in the ceiling of the indoor porch and find them a bit on the bright side, can I change the switch for a dimmer switch ?
There is no transformer on these lights, they are strait 240volts.
Reg

Hi Reg and Pat - Save yourselves the labour charge by taking one of the bulbs to your nearest B&Q and asking for a lower wattage as previously mentioned.
If they're 50w GU10 bulbs you can buy 35w and 20w
If they're ses (small edison screw) spots, you can have 25w
Finally, if you local B&Q is in Durham, you'll find the lightbulbs in aisle 22 - tell them Rob sent you!

Let there be light - Lada

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will get a dimmer switch as some times I need a bright light when looking in the shoe cupboard at the back of the porch.
Thanks again Reg Pat and Lucy the dog.
