From the Calor website:
What has happened?
•Calor issued a product recall on 15th September 2014 for all 6kg Calor Lite cylinders manufactured between 2008-2011 inclusive following concerns regarding a potential material defect which over time could cause the cylinder to deteriorate and potentially lead to a gas escape.

A point to make here is that without this forum I wouldnt have known about this.

If this is a genuine safety issue, one has to ask the question why this isnt being broadcast loudly elsewhere.

Checked mine tonight and luckily both are 2014 models. Apparently safe. Not doing much for my peace of mind, I must say.

It is a times like this that I think the forum proves it's value,I checked mine and have a 2014 and a 2008 so need to change one,so thank you to SEMPTIE for the original posting, even though Calor only announced the recall on 15th I will keep an eye out for the announcement elsewhere.

Message from Calor;

Hello all,

I just wanted to confirm that we are arranging for a recall of our Calor Lite bottles. Currently measures are being put in place to ensure that our network are prepared and clear on the recall process. We expect them to be ready by the middle of next week, when we will make a formal announcement. In the meantime you can find additional information on our website here http://www.calor.co.uk/recall

Many thanks

Nicola - Calor Gas

I have been to the storage site this morning to check the cylinder in the van - 2012, so OK for the Woosiefest next weekend.

The spare cylinder at home is 2014, so also OK. :)

Typical! I've 3 all 08's all fairly full. I hope Calor are replacing light with light and if they are will there be enough good 'lights' about to exchange them? Don't know how many bottles are involved but it must be alot. Lights are not always available now without the recall.

Which actually brings us to another point. Havent they either run out or run short of stock on these. I remember this summer, some dealers were limiting these to one per customer!

The Calor Q&A on the link says the following:

How many cylinders are included in the product recall?

The 6kg CalorLite® cylinder is the only cylinder that is affected by the recall.
Calor estimates that there are c.170,000 6kg CalorLite® cylinders manufactured between 2008 and 2011 inclusive in the marketplace which will be covered by the recall.

EDIT: and these many stockists:

How can I find my nearest CalorLite® stockist?

There are c.2,100 CalorLite® stockists across GB including all Calor Centres and Calor Direct sites.

So that's 81 bottles per stockist on average. :(

I did hear that the deposit was going up on them, so maybe to recoup some of the costs.
There is going to be a big rush and demand will outstrip supply , so im going to wait until next year and use the gas that i have before exchanging them.

I hope you are joking?
I've dealt with two major gas cylinder storage fires and can only say you don't want to be near one when it goes off,.
Product recalls cost a fortune and never taken lightly.
Fortunately from what I read no one has been hurt and hopefully Calor have caught the problem early.
I do hope you are not the exception by delaying your change FOC!

If they are that dangerous you shouldn't transport them yourself?
As they have no record of who has them plenty will be left unchanged and its not only caravans etc who have them.
What do you do with them when they don't have the stock to keep up? They have been in short supply since they have been introduced what makes you think they will have enough when everyone wants to change there's in one go?

I don't use them my self Michael.
Please see the Calor web site for full details.
They do say stop using them immediately and with immediate effect return them to a Calor dealer . I don' t quote verbatim but they , Calor, must know what they are talking about.

I have no problem knowing where my stockist(s) are. The problem I see (fear) is that the numbers involved (now I've seen some estimates) is that the chances of replacing that number of cylinders is months if not years. As some one has already stated it is sometimes quite difficult to find one replacement, in ordinary trading times, let alone thousands - in panic situations!

But there will be people out there who do not and wont know about this for some time.

This seem to have taken off in the last 24hrs when doing a search on Google

I agree so you could be hanging onto a recalled cylinder for months? What do you do with it?
I suppose you could leave it at the depot?
At the deport they could have hundreds of recalled cylinders with the potential of leakage? Then they will load them onto a lorry and move them somewhere else?
Like i said they have no records where the cylinders are? I have been at BBQ's where they use calor lite.
They would have to do media stuff to get it out to the most people as they could?

It says on the Calor website that aby returned under the recall will be exchanged for a full one (obvious really I suppose). I have an almost-empty CalorLite in the garage, and an almost-full one in the 'van. I'm going to be checking them this week, but I'm hoping the almost-empty needs to go back!

I have just check and I have one 2012 and one 2014 but I am way next month for 10 days without EHU and if the weather turns cold I will need to replace at least one. Will there be any left when I need to exchange ?

If some bottles have already been checked and have had a hole punched into the collar how long have Calor known of the problem ?
