CAMC / C&CC.

Should the main clubs offer discounts for sites that are dated and worn out?
We went to a Scottish castle today and because of building works certain parts were closed to visitors so they charged us less.
It got me thinking maybe the club sites should follow suit? We're currently staying at Yellowcraig where the shower block / amenities appear as old as me!

They already do in effect as charges are set individually for each site and take into account both the facilities offered and the level of demand for that site.

Well I was at Hillhead a year or two back, paid full price onky to discover that the club house, where 6 of us went to eat one evening after a fair few drinks to celebrate someone birthday, was closed for a "private function" No reduction in site fee for that night though! Having imbibed far too much for any of us to drive we were none too impressed.

Club houses are surely funded by their takings, not by pitch fees?

Not the point though is it? I paid for that site (CAMC's most expensive) because it had the facilities we wanted, they were closed for the evening with no advanced warning either at the check in or earlier email.

Yellow Craig , unlike Hillhead is one of CAMCs cheaper sites at £32.50 per night now.

CAMC have a programme of site refurbishment which costs a lot. Whilst some of the facilities may be “aged” I have never found them wanting in cleanliness nor hot water etc.

We are currently outside of York paying £47 per night . Our choice because of location. The upside is probably the best toilet facilities in the U.K. see pics. You pays your money….

Hillhead ? Marmite to me but at the price it is very wrong NOT to warn people the “infamous “ club house will be shut ! Poor show CAMC.IMG_2810.jpegIMG_2811.jpeg

Slightly off topic. A couple of weeks ago we stayed at a Travelodge in Stirling. We were warned there was not hot water when we got there but it should be fixed soon. It was still off in the morning and we were advised to complain.

Emailed Customer Support straight away and got a reply within a few hours. Full refund made.

On topic some sites are more dated than others in our opinion but then again expectations will vary.

Is that a CMHC site? Better than most domestic ones. I think I’d get agoraphobia using those, and need gps to navigate around.

No. A private one. However those who have been to CAMC Carnon Downs will know those facilities are similar in that they have self contained bathrooms

Just remembered that we've been to Yellowcraig a couple of times and never gave it a thought about the toilet block being dated.

As I said expectations vary. Not only that the habits of some users are really questionable in terms of cleanliness. I recall the wardens at River Breamish regaling me with stories about how some users leave the toilets in a disgusting state because the expectations are that someone else will clean it up. The disabled toilet had to be closed for a whole day for cleaning due to some inconsiderate user.

Without prior warning that is just plain rude and disrespectful. I would of asked to be allowed in for a few drinks. It is a club afterall.

It hasn't really been a club for a long time. It's run as a commercial business. One of the reasons we left. If you accept that then you use their sites as you'd any other privately run site.

Perhaps we should name our favourite shower/toilet blocks, mine would be Old Oaks, followed by Back of Beyond, both commercial sites, of CAMC ,Winchester scores highly

Old Brick Kilns in Norfolk near Fakenham. A BOB site. Where top grade “commercial “ pitches with fsp were cheaper than the five CL pitches. But the CL pitches have privacy hedges between them. Spacious and excellent facilities all with underfloor heating. Fishing pond, bar/restaurant etc. One of our favourite sites in winter for visiting bird reserves.

I wonder if they've installed the toilet in that position so people don't pi55 in the tray whilst taking a shower. 🤔
