camping cheques

I am an experenced caravaner and have traveled in Europe many times, but this is the first time with camping cheques ( I now have 30 and a May crossing and plan on Italy.) They seem to be an un-organized caravaners answer to a prayer.

My question is therfore are they as good as they seem and is there always room at the inn. Also is the ASCI card worth carrying as a back up.

Its good to see this Forum is used so much. I will return!!

regards

mike

Hi Mike

The answers to you question are YES & YES. I am off to Spain in a couple of weeks using Camping Cheques unless a better deal is available via ACSI or cash. Thing is I have the flexability as the Camping Cheques are current for a couple of seasons, although I would more than likely use more in June.

It is a hard life this retirement pleasure work!

On popular sites in France they can become very full in the early part of June, tend to empty a bit late June. We were on a Camping Cheque site last year that was full, we had booked in advance. Friends also experienced the same problem. The Camping cheque 2006 book does highlight the sites which may get full which is quite helpful. With their popularity increasing space on popular sites will be less plentiful. A number of the sites do advanced booking at no fee, certainly for Camping Cheque Gold Card customers

I have used camping cheques for a few years now and have never been turned away in May/June in France. I, being a belt and braces person phone ahead en-route just to be sure. I understand you can get the site you are leaving to do this for you but you might change your mind en-route. Your cheques can be used for two years and I have even used them in the UK outside of the campsite's allowable dates by paying with a camping cheque and the difference in cash.
