I stayed at this campsite last year. As the advertidement states the site is not suitable for young children because there are no amenities in the immediate vicinity. It is a large open area but the owner tries to dictate where and how you should pitch your caravan. It is quiet, pleasant and literally nothing to do onsite. I wopuld not go back again. I would suggest that you stay at the site for 2 days and investigate the caravan camp site in Montruiel Bellay. It is within walking distance of the village centre with its shops and restaurants. Hope this helps

Dear John - We stayed at Le Thouet in June for 8 blissful nights during which time we met several seasonal European caravanners who had intended to stay just one or two nights but, because of the peace and sheer beauty of the place, decided to stay on. Your hosts, Brian and Nadine do everyting within their power to make you welcome and certainly didn't tell us where to pitch. We were told to pitch where we liked as long as we left enough room for our neighbours (who were 30 feet to the left, no-one to the right and about 150 yards opposite). As for nothing to do on site - there is a swimming pool and a superb restaurant on the poole terrace run by Sharon and Andy, qualified chefs, who serve delicious home cooked dishes each day - lunch and evening! Facilities, though basic are perfectly adequate and exceptionally clean - no problem at all. There is a fridge for those who need it and washing machine etc etc etc. We are in our third week back home now and can honestly say that we will DEFINITELY go back to Le Thouet, even if en route further South but we will go back. We sat outside most evenings until 11pm listening to - well, nothing really except for a resident cuckoo and some wood pidgeons. It depends what you want from your holiday. If you want commercial, don't go there but if you want to relax and chill out, please don't miss it! The local area is stunning - do go to the Chateau at Montreuill-Bellay! Shopping locally is good with supermarkets very descretely tucked away from the main streets. We can only talk from experience and repsect the views of others. However, we are already planning our 2006 holiday which will take in at least one or three nights at Le Thouet. ENJOY and let us know how you get on.

John, just looked back and realise that I have already replied to you (25th June) - was wondering why you hadn't replied.

Dear Ruth, We are still getting to grips with this forum and how it works,so missed your first reply. Thank you so much for your eloquent and reassuring description of the site (how much did Brian pay you????) It sounds exactly like the type of site we love and we certainly won't be disappointed if it is as peaceful as you say. We're now looking forward to our holiday with great anticipation rather than trepidation. We leave 2 weeks today and will tell Brian that we received a glowing report from you. Perhaps we'll write on our return and let you know what we thought. Regards John and Jennie

Hope it's everything you want it to be - say hello to Brian and Nadine, Sharon and Andy (restaurant) for us. Look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get back.
