My daughter is going to The Imperial College, South Kensington in July for 3 days. We were thinking of taking her up and staying around London in our caravan. Does anybody no anysites that are in an ideal location, without going to far in to London.

Abbey Wood is the best site for this, you can catch the train into central London, if you travel after 9.30am (off peak) you buy a zone 4 travel card for around

We have stayed on the CC site at Welwyn Garden City just North of London. It is only a short drive to Hatfield train station where there are regular trains into London.

Nice site, might be worth a look.

Hi Tony

We joined the caravan club, and on line hubby so Crystal Palace so we booked this becuase it was on the bus route.Hope we have made the right choice. Google Earth showed a lot of hardstands there. We will be coming M4 from S.Wales and will go anticlockwise towards Gatwick,I think this will be the quickest, not sure though.

Will drop caravan off at site first, then take my daughter into the college by car.

Thanks everyone for your help.

hi allyson, leave the m25 at junction 2 to get on to the a2 london bound to get to crystal palace , then take the 4 th junction & follow the south circular to crsytal palace ,easy, this will probably take about 1 1/2 - 2 hours through some of the most dense traffic & shopping area's possible , not very nice, as for the bus route to get into central london probably another 2 hours, also i wouldn't like to walk around the crystal palace area at night .leave the m25 at junction 2 to get on to the a2 london bound , then take the 2nd junction & follow signs to abbey wood , this will probably take about 5/10 minutes .mainline station 5/10 walk direct train every 20 mins to central london i also would not like to walk around the abbey wood area at night , like tony ash i also live near abbey wood ... if i was you i would cancell crystal palace & book abbey wood... hope this helps ....pete

Hi Everyone who's replied to my question and thanks for all your comments.

Sorry I have not replied before now, but this web page would not allow me to reply until today, they must have had problems with it.

We are very nervous of staying at any of these sites now, and are looking at Aldershot Heath & Chertsey or if someone else can other a site off the M4 on the outskirts of the M25, near to the railway station or the tube would be better due to it being cheaper.

Hi Allyson,

I completed my post graduate studies at Imperial - so good luck to your daughter.

Try the Denham CC site - it is close to the M40 / M25 Junction on the West of London - which is a simple left turn off the M4 at the M25 junction and then the very next junction is the M40.

Denham CC is close to the Denham Chiltern Line railway station - good service into Central London (Marylebone) - about 30 minutes.

Allyson,

I concur with the views about Abbey Wood - Nice site. I go past the site probably about once a week at present and it looks up to the usual CC standards. Abbey wood looks perfectly safe to me. Why not give the wardens a ring you have nothing to lose.

Monkeys Husband,
