Campsites near Cherbourg

We are travelling back up to Cherbourg in Mid July and want a site fairly near to the ferry port. We will arrive at around 4.0 pm on a Saturday and then will be getting the 6.30 pm ferry on Sunday which really means we would need to book 2 nights unless the site allow a late stay on the Sunday. Have just checked out L'Anse du Brick which is part of the Castels chain but it looks as if they charge about 38 euros per night which seems a bit dear if we have to book 2 nights.

Are there any other suggestions please ?

Try Le Grand Large - very nice site we used it at the beginning of June but were able to use camping cheques at that time. Only about 25 mins from the docks - nice pool and very clean facilities - right on the beach.

2 sites approx 30 miles south of Cherbourg are:

Camping Le Haute Dick at Carentan, and,

Camping L'Etang des Haizes, at L aHaye de Puit

used them both and veas cceptable. Le Haute Dick is a municipal site and in my opinion imore convenient of the 2 for Cherbourg, but Etang de Haizes has more whistles and bells!

We use the municipal site at Valognes (about 15 miles from Cherbourg), We use it on a regular basis heading to/from the ferry.

The toilet/shower block is perfect and you are only a 2 min walk from the town where you can get fast food or eat at a resturant.

The site is located on the north side of the village. Turn right just before the Lidle

We have always used the municipal site at St.Marie E'glise. About half an hour from the ferry.

clean and tidy, reasonable restraurants and a supermarket locally.

Not that I have been aware of! The site backs onto a marina and is approx 300 yds from another area of the marina. It is some distance form the centre of the town. We have only stayed there out of season and have had peaceful stop overs. Approx _11 per night. Good toilet blocks.
