Can't fix awning to caravan - suggestions please.

Hi, We have just aquired our 1st caravan,it'as a 1990 Abi Ace Diplomat. As we have 2 toddlers we needed an awning and bought a 2nd hand very big Trio awning on Ebay. Problem is that the suckers to fit the poles on to the caravan won't stick as the caravan sides have a rough washboard effect. How to I get the suckers & poles to fit without resorting to superglue!! Heading off on our 1st adventure tomorrow, possibly without the awning. Hope someone can suggest a solution. Thanks from Fiona

the suckers dont need to `stick` to the van wall, they just act as a cushion, the tensoin on the awning pole will keep them in place,

Thanks Tony, What a relief that is. Thanks for the advice, we novices will be giving you experts a real laugh. Will make sure the awning gets packed to go afterall! Still hope it's not too windy as it may take a few attempts to get it right. Thanks again, much appreciated. Fiona

But be careful in windy conditions. Strong wind can cause the suckers to fall away from the caravan wall, resulting in the front of the awning collapsing inwards. Make use of any loops in the awning that hold the poles in position in such conditions, and use strong guys and heavy duty pegs when necessary.

Fiona, Try to get the poles slanting downwards from the van to the awning. This will mean they will get tighter against the van if they try to slip down.
