Hi

We are new to this and were wondering if a Toyota Corolla Saloon 1975 cc 5 door hatchback would pull a Eldis Wisp 4 birth caravan or how do we find out

thank you

Hi Lynn

If you go to www.whattowcar.com you will see an outfit matching facility. I'm not that good on cars but if you put in the make and model of the car and make and model of the caravan it will tell you if you have a good match.

It's also useful when you are thinking of changing car or caravan to check if the match you are proposing is good or not. Unfortunately you can't always go by what the person trying to sell you either car or caravan says is 100% true if they are keen to get a sale.

Good Luck

Sorry I forgot to say, I am sure you will get lots of other replies from members out there who know lots more about it than I do, but at least you will get a rough idea from the website.

hi Lynn, If the year of manufacture of your Toyota is correct at 1975, then I doubt if whattowcar will hold information from that long ago, you may find plated weights on your cars VIN plate or handbook if you have one, and also possibly on the caravan to enable you to calculate the match.

Hope this helps.

Lyn,

Easy first job, go to the home page of this site and lokk under towing law and beginers.

That will give you enough info to be knowing what to look for on your car and van.

The whattowcar and towsure sites are quite good at checking matches but as has been said, only if your car and van are listed.

The match criteria are essentially the kerbweight of the car and the MTPLM of the van. The figures for the car will be in the handbook and on the data plate, usually under the bonnet, and for the van on a dataplate just by the lower outside entrance door, if it is recent, and in the handbook. Do check the max tow fogure for your car too as in rare cases this can be less than the kerbweight!!

The rest is simple arithmetic to ensure you are within the recomended and legal limits for your outfit.

There are refinements to the basics such as the power of your engine and wether it is petrol or diesel but essentially the above covers it.

Good luck and have fun.
