Just had the renewal notice for the Sorento, cheeky so and so's are try to increase the premium by £130 even though I have another years NCD. I got new quotes from the site with the cute Meercat.....Simples! But when I rang the well known company with the best quote all went well until I, just on the off chance, mentioned that I would be towing a caravan. I was surprised by the reply.
They will not cover me for towing because my 'van was over 21 feet long mine is 24. He checked with his supervisor who confirmed thay wouldn't insure me for that size van.
I wonder how many people have accepted quotes but may find their insurance null and void because their van is too long.

Hope you are sitting down....Just had our renewal through from `The Green Insurance Co.` under written by Zenith.
Last year we paid £264.17p, quote for this year was £585.67p!!
Went to the Caravan Club, got it for just over £360.00, prices are obviously rocketing, but it certainly pays to shop around.

If you are or ever have been a member of the civil service or have a close relative who is / was look at the LV= quotes for memebrs of CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association). Membership is around £30 / year but in addition to good insurance rates you can get reduced membership to Brittania Rescue which always comes out well in the reviews.

I have no axe to grind for either CSMA or LV= except as a long term satisfied customer.

Just as a matterr of interest to those who run older cars.
I have a Classic Range Rover, a 1994 Volvo 850, and a 1969 Morris 1000. My annual insurance bill for all three is in excess of £800 total, with three different companies.I've just had a quote from Footman James for a three-car policy with all the usual benefits (including European recovery for the old cars) for a mind-boggling £456.00!
Guess who I'll be using come renewal time?

Insurance renewal can be perverse. For several years there have been warnings of 30-40% rises but my premium went down 3.5% in 2009, up just 1% in 2010 and up 15.7% for 2011.
The only way the comparison sites can get below my broker's figure is by using bigger excesses, and then not by much - I'd rather stay at £100 excess.

At the begining of December I came to renew my car insurance and I checked all the details because of different things that I've read on this and other Forums, I checked the length of our van, tow bar, running boards bla bla and happened to mention the fact that my car has rear privacy glass, and that is when I found out that the company that I've been insured with for the last 6 years through my bank now refuse to insure me as my car is a greater risk, So that's me, full no claims, no points, late thirties now having to pay an extra £170 to insure my car elsewhere due to privacy glass!!!!!

Change insurers!
For most cars, privacy glass isn't a modification - it's either standard or a regular option - so the base premium for the car should cover it because it's presence will have been taken into account in the ABI grouping for the vehicle.
