car speakers

Hi all.

Just return from a weekend in wales and had a great time. However our car broke down apparently the earth came loose and it basically stopped. waited for over two hours until a very nice man fron the RAC came and fixed it in two minutes. I did feel very stupid, but also very relieved. He had to remove the battery to access the cars earth so no radio for the rest of our journey. Just got back home and entered the radio code back into the car and it came on functioning as usual only no sound from the speakers. only one of the six speakers had a very slight sound come out of it. Sorry for such a long message but can any one help with this. Is it possible the removal of the earth would blow the car speakers. I have a horrible feeling this could be an expensive poblem to fix. Thanks in advance

Tony

if the earth was off the radio wouldnt have worked, the only way i know to cause probs is running radio with no speakers bloes output transistors Try disconnecting it and reinput code after connection, hope you sort it

It's hard to describe in writing but if the car's main battery earth is loose/poor connection which you seem to be describing,it's possible for the car radio speakers to temporarily supply the earth for the car electrics. This current would flow through the speaker coils and they are probably destroyed. Try a good working speaker to confirm the radio works OK?
