It can be set to unlock all doors or just the drivers door. If set to drivers door only, then driver unlocks others when inside,

how do you do it

It is usually a sequence of presses of the fob and the touch panel on the front door handles, or there is a button to press before you exit the vehicle, or its on the infotainment system. Whichever you do it is straight forward and simple. I won't say the sequence in our car but it works!
Many dealers will tell you that the key puts out a continuous signal or that the fob goes to sleep neither of which are true. If you go to open the car by touch (keyless) and look at the fob at the same time you will see a LED on the fob flash. That LED flashes once every time the fob transmits, and it doesn't flash when the keyless operation is disabled.

Why not remove the fuel pump relay whilst car at home and you are away? No thief will bother with a non starter

I would have thought there would be an after market product installed in the start system that requires a PIN to be spoken to it or even keyed in, little doubt it could be hard wired out but that would add a bit more hassle to the thief's task? Mobile phone app enabled?

I have to concede I do like the innate simplicity of the fob batteries that go to sleep, coupled with a practice of leaving the fob static when not required, just I don't like the massive premium price the vender asks, at present.
A work round any Patent protection could be that functionality being integrated into the fob itself?

That is exactly how the Ghost immobiliser works. You need to input a sequence of presses to access the vehicle. I think yours has an after market fitting as no such thing in either of our cars? It is the damage they cause trying to access the car before they realise it will not start that is a concern as the damage could run into the thousands if they have damaged wiring etc.

Someone on another forum suggested the Pedlock which looks very robust and is a very visible deterrent. Having has two cars stolen in the past albeit not in the UK, we do not want another car stolen. Link to Pedlock. https://pedlocksecurity.co.uk/product/pedlock-universal/

Not after-market - standard factory fitted item. I didn't state the make and model of our car so how can you say it is not on other vehicles?

Not sure where I said that although I did say it was not on either of our vehicles. If it is a standard fit on your car, perhaps that brand suffers from a high percentage of theft hence the additional security as standard? Ours are Toyota cars.

Unfortunately if the thief wants the vehicle. Then its going.
They dont need the keys any more. The AA and Rac etc have gadgets to over ride the alarms, open the vehicle and start the cars through the canbus smart system.
And the thiefs have got hold of these gadgets now.
Im even aware of a toyota. Antitamper canbus device fitted.
Ghost imobiliser fitted
Steering wheel bar fitted. ( Got cut off with grinder )
And it was pinched.
They only got it back as it was fitted with toyotas own tracker. which only gets activated once vehicle is reported missing. So thiefs can scan car once they pinch it. They think theres no tracker. as it wont show up as its not actively transmitting. So they thought they were safe.
Then once its reported missing. Tracker gets activated 1 hour later and its location is immediately sent to nearest police patrol.

We have the tracker fitted in our Lexus and it is not a Toyota tracker although they fitted it. It si the basic aTracker Retrieve from Tracker. Tracker's home office is in Durban South Africa and they have far more experience than any tracking experience than any UK tracker company. Our son who drives a Landcruiser had to have two trackers fitted to get insurance and he lives in the bush! LOL! 🤣

Fingers crossed I'm not tempting fate but
...

Many of us here often leave our cars unlocked at home. Same goes for house doors and sheds.

I have put the special, and expensive CR2032 batteries that go to sleep in our key fobs, so if a key is not moving after 3 minutes it goes to sleep and so then there are no signals for the thieves to clone.
Seems to me to significantly reduce times we can be targeted by that particular technique, particularly as now I put the "in use" key down rather than leave it in my pocket. Other lives in a metal safe, secure in three ways, Faraday cage , asleep, and physically secure.

Ford Ranger, not really surprised a nice new one has an unwelcomed appeal.
I will look them up, never heard of them before, thanks.

Unfortunately the camera would over look a public walk way as we do not have a drive. A bit wary of infringing any Data Protection Acts.. However an outdoor light that coming on may act as a deterrent. The car is about 5m from the home and parked on the street.
Like Birdman, we have 3 front cameras and 1 rear. 2 are tracking cameras plus a doorbell. All Tapo, which works for me.

How a camera is directed seems to be open to interpretation. Clearly they should not be looking over other peoples property. However mine can see over neighbours front gardens. As they provide security for them, none are bothered.

I do not have the alarm turned on. That would mean very many false alarms every day. Set off by passers by, cats and foxes.

A few weeks ago a lady went missing and there was a police search. They examined my films and were complimentary regarding the quality, and no complaints regarding the direction.

The Toyota RAV4, which shares a lot with the Lexus NX, is the 5th most stolen car in the UK https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/25221545.stolen-car-models-revealed-uk-past-year/
It does not mention the age of the RAV4 that is being stolen as there was an issue with earlier models. The Lexus and RAV4 are very similar and since 2022 thieves can no longer access the CAN Bus as per earlier models. It also refers to being stolen using key relay tactics so in essence, the owner is at fault.
