Lots of changes are possible on VWs as the software is global, so some things can be coded out by selecting a country option where the feature isn't mandatory. What vehicle? As my sportage does not have that function.

That is exactly how the Ghost immobiliser works. You need to input a sequence of presses to access the vehicle. I think yours has an after market fitting as no such thing in either of our cars? It is the damage they cause trying to access the car before they realise it will not start that is a concern as the damage could run into the thousands if they have damaged wiring etc.It is usually a sequence of presses of the fob and the touch panel on the front door handles, or there is a button to press before you exit the vehicle, or its on the infotainment system. Whichever you do it is straight forward and simple. I won't say the sequence in our car but it works!
Many dealers will tell you that the key puts out a continuous signal or that the fob goes to sleep neither of which are true. If you go to open the car by touch (keyless) and look at the fob at the same time you will see a LED on the fob flash. That LED flashes once every time the fob transmits, and it doesn't flash when the keyless operation is disabled.
