how do you do it

It is usually a sequence of presses of the fob and the touch panel on the front door handles, or there is a button to press before you exit the vehicle, or its on the infotainment system. Whichever you do it is straight forward and simple. I won't say the sequence in our car but it works!
Many dealers will tell you that the key puts out a continuous signal or that the fob goes to sleep neither of which are true. If you go to open the car by touch (keyless) and look at the fob at the same time you will see a LED on the fob flash. That LED flashes once every time the fob transmits, and it doesn't flash when the keyless operation is disabled.
