Car to Caravan connection

We have a Compass Rallye GTE and when we connect the cable to that charges or powers the Van you can hear a relay clicking on and off every 15 seconds it has a plugin systems CPU2uk fitted is this normal or do we have a fault.

Thanks

Andy

if you have a voltage sensing relay in the car which is switching on and off due to marginal voltage you could hear the habitation relay in the van coming in and out .

Try revving the engine slightly and see if it happens .

If you turn on an interior light(12V) it will come on when the voltage from the car. drops etc

Hi John

The lights do come on as the relay clicks and volt meter filcks across to 12 volts.

so by this it is normal operation ?

Thanks

It sounds as though the voltage sensing relay in the car is hunting on and off.

Later relays have an adjustment screw to set the operating level I believe

Try adjusting it if its got the screw and check that the cable used is thick enough for the load.

If you increase the revs it should increase the voltage and stop the hunting.

Its not normal for it to hunt like this it neeeds adjusting or a new relay by sounds of it.
