caravan brakes

hi does, anyone know if this is normal just put my caravan back away in compound couldnt drive in so had to reverse in but after reversing it felt like the brakes had stuck on cos van wouldnt move for a few seconds finally got it moving after putting on loads of revs but heard a bit of a noise from near side wheel as if it had been stuck but towed loverly going forward any on any idea thanks lee

If you had applied the handbrake whilst going backwards, then the reverse mechanism would have kicked in and lowered the normal leading shoe into the trailing shoe position.
When towing forward again you would have dragged the lowered shoe backto its normal leading shoe position,so some friction had to be overcome, hence the noise as the shoe went back.
