i think that the people who multibook and then dont turn up on a regular basis should be banned for 12 months and named and shamed in the club magazine, that should stop it.

If the CC survey is going to influence how the club is run for the next 5 years should members not have been emailed about the survey?

I get emails from the Club but never had anything about the survey and only found out about it due to the post here. Finding out about the survey by chance is very bad, or is it just me that missed out on hearing about the survey directly from the club. Survey news buried away in a news letter is not exactly informing all members about it!

For those who block book and resent or don't want deposits their participation in the survey could sway the end result.

A members club should be run in away that is fair to all the members. The current booking system is not fair to a lot of the membership!

Hello David,

If the CC base their conclusions on the information in the survey - it cannot be definitive. It can only be definitive if 100% of users respond, and then there will be differences of opinion within the replies.

Graham if those who do multi book had to pay substantial non-refundable deposits hopefully the cost would put them off and make them moderate their excessive booking. Hit them where it hurts - in the pocket.

I suppose we're in a fortunate position, that we don't take our holidays in season, but we do like have weekends away all year round.

I can't honestly say that we've ever come up against the problems that many people have with the booking system, we usually manage to get the sites we want, when we want, (saying that we wanted a pitch on Black Horse Farm Folkestone on 19th Feb, unfortuantely it was showing fully booked so we're going to Canterbury CCC site instead - no problems getting a pitch, as they charge a deposit -

Perhaps a slight misuse of the word definative but I was trying to make the point that having gone to he trouble of asking members to comment on the Clubs booking arrangements, no only online but by post as well it would seem the Club is quite serious in finding a solution that meets with most approval. I suspect they need some convincing that they need to change the system at all but perhaps want to test the strength of feeling. Pervious debates both here on PC and many other forums have usually ended with a large proportion of people demanding that deposits should be taken. Rather interesting watching this debate there have been far more people saying that they don't have too much of a problem and would not be so happy if deposits were introduced. I think its excellent that the Club are asking members about various topics and I hope this survey will show a way forward although it might not be in a way that everyone thinks. Be interesting to see!

I think John L is sensible enough to recognise that no survey ever done on a group of this size is ever going to achieve 100% participation. After all we elect Governments on turnouts of 60% or less of available voters.

I also do accept that finding the survey on the CC webpage does take a bit of digging.

If the CC confirms that the number of surveys completed is greater than 50% of the current membership, then I feel that the results are democratic and have some value.

I suggest that anyone who is a member completes the survey as to not do so, is accepting the status quo and therefore has no mandate for complaining at a future date.

I think Scotch Lad's suggestion that everyone should complete the survey is a good one.

I learnt many years ago from acting as treasurer for various clubs etc. that if you don't take a deposit, some people will let you down, and I always asked for a sufficient amount that most would hesitate at throwing away.

After all, what commercial organisation would allow bookings without a deposit? An alternative would be the system used by many hotels where you are required to leave credit card details and they will make a charge of at least the first night's accomodation for a no-show or late cancellation.

I've just filled in the survey and voiced my vote for a deposit system. IMHO a deposit system will mean that folks will not book 15 weekends and all the bank holidays in one sitting even if they fully intend to use them. A first come first served system is only ok if the first customer in the queue is not allowed to buy everything in the shop. by limiting the number of bookings made in one go and reducing the no shows/last minute cancellations would mean a fairer system for everyone. It does seem to work well for the C&CC. I have just booked late may bank holiday from a choice of sites, no chance on the CC.

This issue of the CC opening its online bookings to all members (without deposit) on a specified day during December has always seemed totally barmy to me!!

It encourages multiple bookings with no real commitment and in my experience has for the last two years has caused the CC website to crash for hours/days at a time.

Why do we not learn from a commercial site that I tried to book with last year - I requested a long (3 day) weekend and was told that I should 'call back' nearer the time such that they could protect their commercial opportunity to let that pitch for a full week or similar.

I would suggest that the CC allow a 'rolling window' for bookings, such that you can book ahead a number of months - say 5 or 6 or 7, etc. This would eliminate the 'huge crush' that is currently experienced when the CC 'open' their bookings each year.

Additionally in order to better balance the system I would only permit bookings to be made in proportion to the duration of stay planned; i.e. stays of 6 or more nights could be booked 6 months in advance; 5 or more nights only 5 months in advance; etc, such that stays of 2 nights could only be made a maximum of 2 months in advance.

Finally I would expect everybody to pay a booking deposit of

We cannot book our holidays months in advance and when we are able to do so we want to have two weeks off only to find that the site is booked full every Saturday night so we look elsewhere.

Every year on this forum you read posts about people who are annoyed because they cannot book a holiday months in advance and then also brag about how many weekends they have been able to book at a particular site. These same people probably would not be rushing to go online and book if they had to pay a

The only thing one can really state is that it is apparent the CC have recognised that there is a problem, even if they do not make it public, or they would not even bother with having a survey. So that is a positive step and it is likely that some change will result, which will hopefully keep a lot more people happy.

As others have mentioned a deposit system is likely to be the main action as that can be introduced without too much alteration to the existing system. However I personally think they will 'shy' away from restricting multiple bookings at this time.

once again some replies are being angled at gordon brown, what is it with some of you ? every time cashflow or cost is mentioned there are posts saying they will not encourage him by paying the money. get real here, the topic is about an organisation charging certain prices, is it maybe because he's a scot?.

we had your maggie for long enough.

I must say that I can't argue with your sentiments about political rants MacHighlander but am I missing something?

I haven't noticed any mention of Broon in this topic

Well I've had a quick skim through this thread MacHighlander and I fail to see where anyone has mentioned Broon or Scots.

Could it be that as a fellow Scot you are feeling some guilt about the state of the country? If so don't. It matters not what breed he is it's time for them to go ;O)

Isn't Cameron a Scottish name as was Blair .. heh! heh! heh!

Now stop taking your eyes off organising your wee lassie because it makes you hallucinate :O)

I'm glad you didn't spot anything either Parksy. I skimmed through the thread twice but even then I was prepared for flak if I'd missed it .. heh! heh!

I hope his foot will be ok, he's got to go and get the Fish Supper in a wee while.

He'll be doing the one legged stagger immortalised by The Big Yin with the fish supper in one hand close to the ground , one foot rooted to the spot and trying to walk with the other leg.
